haunted

from REVERSED by the garages

/

lyrics

my body is a temple
for the gods of other men
wielded as a weapon by foes
i swore i'd never be again

i feel the iron on the back of my neck
and i know it's gonna begin
i have no windows, i have no doors
but something's coming in

and if we are all animals
this is another kind of beast
this soft body is donned like a mask
by a predator ready to feast

oh, maybe there's a cure for this
maybe i oughta call a priest
what used to be sacred ground
has been otherwise leased

i recall sort of dimly
something 'bout the wages of sin
but what if death has already come
and it's crawling beneath my skin

there is a power i don't want to have
when the devil’s in my bones
when all i feel's my two small feet
pounding their way right home

(dreadful wailing and groaning)

i can feel their desires
taking over who i am
tied to the pyre as the flame burns high
around a sacrificial lamb

i have heard there is joy to be found
in becoming someone new
but that must not apply
to someone becoming you

i don't wanna be just like them
oh, but i can't go on
why fear fire when i can't lose
what's already gone
